Artadi Pasos de San Martin 2019

The bottled 2019 San Martín was produced with Tempranillo grapes from 0.76 hectares of vines planted in 1930 in the village of Laguardia on an east-facing slope with a high content of limestone just below the Torre de Oña winery. It's ripe (14.71% alcohol) and soft, showcasing the approachable style of the vintage, with round tannins and mellow acidity (4.83 grams). It followed a similar vinification and aging as the rest of the wines from the year: a one- or two-day maceration and a soft 10- to 12-day fermentation in open oak vats with two daily foot treads and one soft pump-over followed by nine months in French barrique. It has the chalky and austere texture of the limestone-rich soils. It's powerful and well built. 1,200 bottles were filled in June 2021.
