Austrian Riesling is often defined by elevated levels of dry extract thanks to a lengthy ripening period and freshness due to dramatic temperature swings between day and night. Wachstum Bodenstein's high elevation, bordering the forest at the top of the mountain, produces one of Prager's most mineral and finessed Rieslings. Riesling's high acidity makes it one of the most versatile wines at the table. Riesling can be used to cut the fattiness of foods such as pork or sausages and can tame some saltiness. Conversely, it can highlight foods such as fish or vegetables in the same way a squeeze of lemon or a vinaigrette might.

A lush, ripe style, with plenty of rich smoky notes to the ripe peach, nectarinem and melon and prosciutto flavors. Offers a broad structure, with an intense finish of tarragon cream and spice. Drink with roast pork. Drink now through 2021. 267 cases made.

Effusively fruity in aromatics and palate presence, this bottling emphasizes apple, kiwi and white peach. A bright, juicy streak of fresh lime helps keep things vibrant and refreshing, while cyanic suggestions of pip and pit lend an impressive glow, and salt and iodine a crustacean savor to the long finish. Given the high altitude and consequent late ripening of these vines, explains Bodenstein, they were less developed when the heaviest September rains fell and hence less affected by the botrytis and stem rot that prevailed in so many Wachau Riesling vineyards. That said, there is relatively high volatility here, and the peachy fruit exhibits a faint note of overripeness somewhat at odds with the brightness and bite of lime and apple. This is definitely one to revisit and reevaluate in 2016.
