I don't think the 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos Des Fèves matches the brilliant 2015, but it's not far behind and is certainly a brilliant Côte du Beaune that has loads to love. Revealing a translucent ruby color as well as a terrific perfume of ripe cherries, sappy herbs, spring flowers, and Asian spices, it starts out supple and sweetly fruited, yet shows more and more acidity, cut, and focus with time in the glass. Beautifully balanced, with both acidity and tannins, it's approachable today yet will be best with 4-5 years of bottle age and cruise for a decade.

This monopole has always been cited as one of Beaune's very finest terroirs, and the 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Fèves has turned out very nicely. Bursting from the glass with a fragrant bouquet of raspberries, plums, peonies, bergamot and exotic spices, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, with an enveloping core of fruit, succulent acids and melting tannins. But its charm is deceptive, as the underlying raw materials should vouchsafe at least two decades' longevity.

A ripe, pure and succulent red, this boasts cherry, raspberry, toasty and spice aromas and flavors. Though firmly structured, this is balanced overall, offering a lingering aftertaste of fruit, spice and woodsy notes. Best from 2022 through 2035. 700 cases imported.
