Pian Dell'Orino Rosso di Montalcino 2017

The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino blends the power and richness of the vintage with the fresh and crystallin stylings of Pian dell'Orino. Here I'm finding a spicy and slightly autumnal display of black cherries, cinnamon, clove and hints of sage. The textures are silky, coasting across a medium-bodied frame while ushering in ripe red berries offset by a sweet and sour mix of citrus, with juicy acids and mineral tones which create a crunchy feel toward the close. There's a layer of gentle tannins that linger under an air of red licorice and florals. Wow. While not classic in style, a 2017 Rosso like this really tempts the imagination to see what the vintage Brunellos will bring.
