The 2022 Sonoma County Cabernet originates entirely from the soils of Sonoma Valley. Based around the climatically cool Lazy Dog Vineyard, located near the Carneros and Sonoma Coast AVA border, this is built in a classic Cabernet style that showcases the hallmark currant and black raspberry perfume of Cabernet along with some signature peppercorn and cedar. The intention here is to have a wine that has one foot in the old school but also is juicy and approachable enough that it can be appreciated in its youth. 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Malbec predominately from Lazy Dog and Bedrock Vineyard, along with a couple barrels of Montecillo added for additional high-tone perfume. The addition of Lazy Dog in 2022 really made this wine as the cool location, which normally gets picked in mid-October, was unphased by the early September heat and got picked in two passes-the first on September 20th and the second on October 6th. The deep color and softer structure of Lazy Dog married nicely with the structure, perfume, and potency of Bedrock Cabernet which cropped at under 2 tons-per-acre in 2022.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County) is elegant, polished and so pure. Precise, with gorgeous aromatic intensity, this rushes forth with sweet floral notes, red-toned fruit, mint, orange peel an spice. The 2022 is exquisite, delicious and very pretty. Dollops of Cabernet Franc and Malbec round out the blend.

Half of the fruit for the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from 15 acres of the grape planted at Bedrock Vineyard, which in the past was sold to another winery. "I wanted really well farmed, organic fruit as a base for this entry-level Cabernet Sauvignon," owner and winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson, MW says, noting that much of the rest of the fruit is declassified from the Monte Rosso and Montecillo single-vineyard Cabernets. Deep ruby-purple, it offers detailed scents of blackcurrant, blueberry, violet, juniper and thyme. The full-bodied palate is light on its feet with juicy acidity, soft, supple tannins nestled into its perfumed fruit and a long, iron-laced finish.
