The 2019 The Wild Ride comprises 40% Shiraz, 40% Grenache and 20% Mataro (Mourvèdre/Monastrell). This is thick, rich and sweet, with layers of plummy fruit and plump tannins in the mouth. Like the Ball Buster, the alcohol sits heavy on the finish of this wine, and while that will please many who seek this full-throttle style, it cantilevers the fruit just out of balance. It's a thick, dense, rich, pruney, opulent wine. This feels fresher and more vibrant than The Ball Buster, but somehow I find the style sits a little better with the latter. 15.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
