Coming all from vines near the village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the 100% Tempranillo 2013 Reserva spent 17 months in 20% new French and American oak. It's a rocking Reserva offering lots of red and black currant fruits interwoven with notes of vanilla, cedar, and lead pencil. These carry to a medium to full-bodied red with a great mid-palate, rock-solid overall balance, and a great finish. This is a beauty to drink over the coming 10-15 years.

2013 was not an easy vintage, but the 2013 Reserva shows poise and balance. It might be less concentrated than usual, and it was bottled at 13.6% alcohol. It matured in 225-liter barrels-70% French and the rest American-for some 17months, during which time it was racked every four months. This is a weaker wine, and the oak made a big imprint on the nose and the palate. It was a cold and rainy year, and the wines perhaps were not strong enough to take 18 months in oak. This is a traditional, filtered reserva, quite polished and soft. It's light to medium-bodied with spicy, smoky and creamy flavors and good acidity. 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2017.

This plump red offers cherry and tea flavors, accented by clove and cinnamon notes. Round and juicy, kept lively by light, firm tannins and citrusy acidity. Not powerful, but complete. Drink now through 2025. 1,500 cases made, 300 cases imported.
