Medium deep straw yellow with golden tinges. Ripe aromas and flavors of apricot, balsamic oils, bergamot and guava. Round and tactile but also very fresh in the mouth with hints of orange oil complicating flavors of grapefruit and mountain herbs in the mouth. Finishes long, multilayered and dense. An outstanding Catarratto. Owner Fabio Sireci tells me these are old vines of the Catarratto Lucido variety, a rare situation as the grape produces very little at the heights these vines are planted (roughly 750 meters above sea level). Still, it smells and tastes of the Lucido variety and so I'm not arguing.

Expressive notes of pineapple, candied kumquat and lemon thyme are set on a lithe, light- to medium-bodied frame in this fresh and zesty white. Minerally smoke and stone notes linger on the finish. Drink now through 2023.

Citrus, white stone fruit and Mediterranean scrub aromas shape the nose, while the vibrant, linear palate shows yellow apple, pear and a tangy mineral note reminiscent of crushed stone. It closes on an almond note.

The 2018 Sicilia Catarratto Masso is a glossy and polished wine that offers very pretty aromas of stone fruit, yellow rose and even a touch of rubber or latex that I always find attractive when I encounter it in white wines. This is a lean to mid-weight wine with a pretty touch of bitter Sicilian almond on the close.
