Medicinal black cherry, mentholated herbs and dusty autumnal spice waft up from the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino. Although quite youthful and structured today, there's a symmetry to the intense primary fruit, with bright acids and fine tannins that promise years of development. Floral, leathery and intense, this tapers off slowly with a hint of licorice that echoes on for nearly a minute.

This opens with tobacco, baking-spice and leather aromas. The straightforward palate offers black-cherry jam, star anise and vanilla alongside smooth tannins. Drink 2022-2029.
